Escape the Steamy Summer at Round 1
Mary has agreed to come back again this week to tell us what TO DO. Lucky us!
Round 1 is a super sports/game complex near the Convention Center. My husband and I checked it out last Sunday. We have no children, so it was kind of a date. We had a great time. (Understatement, I had to pry my 40- year old husband away from the arcade at the end)
Truly, you’ll find something you enjoy there:
Floors 1 and 2: Arcade games and photo booths
Floor 3: Bowling
Floors 4-7: Roller skating, mini-bikes, billiards, more arcade games, mechanical bull, archery, badminton, basketball, mini-golf, ping-pong, karaoke, darts, batting cages, golf driving ranges, and more. Floor 4 also had a sectioned off children’s area with slides, jumpy areas, and other things for little kids.
There are two fee options-- 1,280 yen for 90 minutes or 1,700 yen for 3 hours. (Prices slightly cheaper on weekdays) Both options let you participate in anything on Floors 4-7. The bowling costs extra. We went with the 3-hour option and bought a member’s card for a nominal fee to get a discount each time we return.
Since my husband wanted the most bang for the buck, we had to do every sport and game this place offered in only 3 hours, and I mean everything. Can you relate?
Some of the highlights:
Getting out work frustration at the Kickbox station
Reminiscing about grade school skate parties in my “old-fashioned” skates.
Archery
Jealous of local bus drivers who barge out in traffic and make other cars slam on their breaks? Try it for yourself with the Tokyo Bus Driver video game. There was a wait to get on this one….
Finally, relaxation areas with chairs that massage you for like 30 whole minutes…
About food…the concessions inside were pretty awful (basically frozen food heated in a microwave). Other people brought in their own lunches, and we saw a group of teens with a Birthday cake. I recommend you do that, or else eat at the one of the restaurants outside the center including A&W, Coco Curry, or Baskin Robbins.
To get there: 58 South towards Naha. Take the Convention Center access road that veers to the right past Foster. Pass Tropical Beach and Convention Center on your right. Continue straight and ahead on the left, you’ll see Round 1.
Hours M-F 10 am to 6 am
Sat 9 am to 6 am
Sun 8 am to 6 am

This just answered my what to do on the first day of summer break question. Thank you!

Thanks for posting this. I had heard about this place and knew it was somewhere near the convention center, but it's nice to have more details. I'll have to go check it out.

Do you remember whether there was a free admittance or discount when adult goes in w/ child? Or is the entry fee for everyone? For instance the Wago Land has free entry for paying adult~and this is w/ the membership card. The membership card does help. Is there also a more unlimited entry fee - more than 3hrs of play (during the week)? Just sounds like so much to do in 3hrs..or was this just weekend fees maybe?
If someone happens to go, can they post some pics of floor 4? Just curious how the younger childrens area is. Thanks!
It sounds like a BIG place for all that is included!! We are going to have to make a trip there on one of these rainy days!

I just went there today. The kids had a blast and of course didn't want to leave. There was no weekday cheaper admittance and I had myself and 4 kids with me. I had to pay Y1,700 for myself and 4 elementary school kids were about 1,100 each (but one was free...not sure whether this was a special...my total was Y5,100 - not somewhere I would go everyday!!!). You could buy a member card for 500 yen (not sure if that was each, the lines of communication were like an animated cartoon on both sides so I gave up!). The kids area was cool, kind of like family fun land, but bigger and newer. They had massage chairs right there also (quite painful at times and at others blissful!!!) Sorry, I didn't take my camera!

Can you give more thorough directions? I don't know where the convention center is.
Posted by: Jennifer | June 12, 2009 at 08:37 PM
More directions: Take the 58 south towards Naha. Soon after you drive past Camp Foster Commissary gate (on the 58), you'll see a sign above that says "Convention Center" and the road will veer off to the right. Get in the turn lane to go right, and take that road and it will lead you straight to the Round 1.
Concerning fees and staying longer than 3 hours-- They give you wrist timers, and when you leave they see how long you've been there. If it's longer than 3 hours, they charge you a little more. (about 500 yen for each 30 minutes over the time)

Jennifer, head south on 58, just past Foster's commisary gate, 58 splits into a by-pass, take that bypass to the right and keep going south. You'll see the big bowling pin. :)

We just went there today and it was good times. The Fam and I showed up at 1200 and it was actually NOT busy...which means we saw and did everything at great length and without wait! When we left at 3 the line to get in was horrendous. Awesome place though...and all the kids left fulfilled and tired (YES). I agree with what the person above said...the food looked like space food. Eat before or bring your own in...

Does any body know if they take dollars or is it just yen?
Posted by: Amanda H | July 04, 2009 at 09:05 PM
Just yen, Amanda. Possibly credit cards - but i didn't look. This place is fantastic! I want to go with grown ups for a fun date night sometime!

It will be are first time going. I want to go with my husband tonight forour anniversary. Is there a place on base that can convert dollars to yen?
Posted by: Amanda H | July 05, 2009 at 06:48 AM
Amanda,
Community Bank on Foster next to the PX does it with no service charge. They might not be open today (Sunday), but right off base outside the Spot gate, there's a Japanese money exchange place, and the rate is not too bad... do you know that tall building that says Blueberry Cafe? The money place is right next to that building right side.

I double-checked today while we were there and they do indeed take credit cards.
And to think, I checked just for you guys. :p

Do they offer Gift Certificates? I thought this would be a great end of season gift for team coaches!

I was wondering if you could make reservations there? We're trying to plan a birthday party for the 19th of September and we were wondering if it was necessary to make reservations or if we had to call ahead if it was a large group. Can anyone give us the number for Round 1? Thanks

So, you have to pay for the arcades and photo booths on the 1st & 2nd floors? I just want to make sure I'm understanding right. :)
Posted by: Shelly | September 12, 2009 at 05:15 PM
you have to pay for everything on the first and second floor-- except when you leave from the "paid area" you get a free ticket per person to play one of the claw games :) I think it was children under 3? are free. The kids area was a little much for my 3 year old, but she isnt much into climbing. It had a bounce house, too.
