Halloween and Formal Wear ... Oooh scary combo
Okay, so costumes and formal wear do not actually go together, although Elvira seems to pull it off with style! But you have to give me credit for putting the two together in one post like this!
Have you found your Halloween costume yet? Our family is going with a Star Wars theme and we bought ours from Costume Craze (though, expect to pay an arm and a leg for shipping for speedy delivery). Check out this Halloween post on where others shopped around. It seems like aside from the PX, ETWS has a huge selection and JUSCO might have a few. I also know that Torii station rents out costumes. Visit the link to post any suggestions you might have.
For those of you who are attending a formal event soon (most of the Marine spouses will relate to this need as the Marine Corps birthday ball falls in November), where can you find a decent dress? Every year, I end up buying my dress at the Foster vendor mall. Where do you buy yours? Any suggestions?

For formal wear bluefly.com is an excellent site. Several price ranges, designer lables at a fraction of the price. Plus, my order was delivered in about a week.

I bought my Marine Corps gown at AmeroticaJapan. The name of the store is a little misleading, it's not really "that" kind of store. It's a boutique that sells ball gowns, cocktail dresses and such. It's owned by an American man and his Okinawan wife. The one I go to is not too far from the Commissary gate at Foster, but I hear there is also a location on Kate 2 street near Kadena.

Check out nexteve.com they have custom made dresses for a decent price.

I bought a formal gown from one of the independant shops in Jusco (not recommend as they`re expensive and often small, demoralizing sizes) but it needs altering but I cannot find a dressmaker/tailor who can do formal wear. Ideas anyone?

I have purchased formal wear from JcPenney, BlueFly, and JCrew all online. I have had them altered at the alteration shops on base with no problems so far.
I also rented a great costume at the Torii Beach Office for a luncheon I attended last week and it was a hit. I am probably going to get another one for a bunco I have to dress up for...

Iko - I had my dress altered last year at Foster in the Annex where the dress shop is located. The ladies were incredibly nice and did it in 3 days :)

The Marine Thrift Shop on Camp Foster has some cute costumes for children. The prices are just right. Especially for something that will probably only be worn once. I bought my daughter's costume there and it still had tags on it!

You can find great shoes on zappos.com it takes about a week and it is free shipping to send them back if they don't work. You can order several pairs and send back what you don't need.

Hi everyone, can anyone tell me where in Tori that they rent out costumes? My daugther's birthday is this sunday and Monakids were booked, so were going to have it at home. I wanted to rent my husband a costume. Is it only during halloween season?

Manisa, You have to contact the "Torii Beach Parks and Picnic areas" for costume rental. They can be reached at 644-4659. Hope this helps!

Hi Jen T. I'm not on Okinawa any longer, but I remember their store being located off of Hwy 58 past Foster but before Kinser. They usually advertise in the Okinawa Marine, but should def be in the yellow pages there. Hope this helps!
