This 70-seat izakaya, complete with sunken-floor type seating, is a local Courtney eatery. We frequent this restaurant, on 75, almost weekly. The atmosphere, service and food are great. We like to eat dinner early so most evenings we are the only customers in the place - it's like being at home with a private chef and no dish duty. As long as you arrive when they first open.
As most izakayas traditionally do, this local favorite offers sushi (nigiri), miso soup, pasta, pizza, spring rolls, yakitori, shrimp with avocado salad, fried potatoes (which are french fries if you order them separate from a dinner combo) and raw fish.
We always opt for the great dinner combos. We usually share the #2 dinner combo for Y1,900 - Chicken Teriyaki and Shrimp. With this combo you get a salad, a choice of sushi-roll, sauteed mushrooms, bread or rice and small, fried potatoes. Then I usually order another sushi roll and we are stuffed.
Your sushi roll choices with the combos are:
-California roll: avocado and cucumber
-Canadian roll: salmon with cream cheese
-Shrimp tempura roll: shrimp tempura
-Spider roll: crab
Tsubak i ya is not limited by the above rolls, these are just the ones available with the dinner combos. I like izakayas because they are predictable - comfortable, plenty of seating, each one offers a few unique menu items different from each other and there is always something for everyone on the menu.
Special Note: This restaurant takes both Yen and American dollars. They have a stamp card - 10 stamps and your next meal is 50% off.
Hours: Open Thursday-Tuesday from 5p.m. until 1a.m. Closed on Wednesdays. 098-972-6616
Location: Courtney area on 75

We love this place too! It is within easy walking distance of the Courtney housing which makes for a nice evening stroll and a couple of drinks for everyone without worrying about driving!
Except for the fishies, the vegatable dishes always look yummy with the peppers, mushrooms, and noodles. With now have here in town, a Vietnamese noodle house restaurant. I’de like to try it out but probably can’t get Mr Jim in the door. We’ll work on it. Love to you. Mom
This was the first place I went off base and I enh=joyed the food and the decor!
I have eaten here A LOT! I loooove this place! My favorite meals are the beef or chicken terriyaki with saute’d mushrooms and tempura rolls. I just want to time it just right so we can be in there when the place is lively like it was the first couple of times we went.
We went last night for the first time, based on the comments and review. It was wonderful. We had spring rolls, a sushi variety (5), and yakitori assortment. My husband had a draft Orion and I had Lime Hi (which gave a whole new meaning to pucker). We arrived at about 5:30 and were their first customers. It was great and we went away feeling refreshed and very full.
heyyy!! I live right above this place, only been here for a week but will for sure try it out!!
