Kimberly Works to Make Us Up

If you've ever walked by the makeup counter in a big, fabulous mall and wished that could be you, comfortably seated while a professional applies makeup and turns you into an unexpected beauty, then I have someone for you to meet!! Welcome to Okinawa, Kimberly.

Kimberly1 1.  Please, tell us about your job.   I run my own company GlamourEyes and I am a Professional Makeup Artist.  I started out working for various cosmetic companies and decided my love was for the art of makeup and started my own business so I could focus on what I love to do.  I specialize in Print (photo shoots), Media (Music Videos, television, commercials, etc.).  I also do lessons in application, event makeup for proms, balls, weddings, pageants, etc.

2.  What education or training is required for your job?  No training is required but I have had extensive training through the companies I worked for and have taken additional classes with MAC. Having a creative mind, artist skills, and a love for makeup is what is necessary in my opinion for this job.

Kimberly2 3.  Is this your dream job or a fill-the-time job?  This is definitely my dream job, I love everything about what I do.  I have played with makeup since I was a toddler and even remember times when I did my grandmother’s make up when I was about 7 or 8 and she even wore it to the opera. I can’t say if it looked great but that kind of support helped give me the confidence in my talent!

4.  Is this job making you want to pursue something different?  In addition to makeup and hair styling, I'd like to get into doing some wardrobe/styling work.

5.  What do you love about your job?  I love making people feel beautiful. Giving someone more confidence and a new glow. Creating something original.  Bringing out a feature not visible to the naked eye.

Kimberly3 6.  Do you feel like you have improved your experience of Oki by having this job?  Yes, I have already seen places I would not have seen and met many I would never have had a chance to meet.

7.  Does your job require your kids to be in daycare? Not often.

Ok, I posted this on the post on Facebook, but thought I would put it here, too.

You know what would be really cool? If maybe you did a class for teenagers. I would love for my teenager to learn how to do makeup on herself. She is resisting the urge to wear it, but she’s almost 15. I bet you could get a whole bunch of teenagers interested.

    Hi Renee,
I have done teenage classes in the past and they were always fun! I would love to do another one, feel free to email me and maybe we can set something up!

How about a workshop for women to mix and mingle, learn some great techniques for those times when you want to do a little something special with your make-up? I think that would probably be a big hit too.

That’s great that you have been able to take something you love and create a career out of it :)

Kimberly is AWESOME! I would recommend anyone going to her for makeup. She does unbelievable work. One day she will be discovered by someone really big and famous and I can say “I knew her when”. Okinawa ROCKS! We loved it there. We lived in Okinawa from 1998-2001!

From what I’ve heard, Okinawa’s weather is crazy hot, like almost beyond breathing capability kind of hot. Of course, in this kind of climate, foundation and such that we would normally use in the US would just melt right off. I’m headed to Okinawa in the beginning of summer and would like to know what kind of makeup to bring with me or buy there that would be sweat- and melt-proof. I don’t know if you wander outdoors much but that is where I would mostly be and am at an utter loss about what to do! Please send me an email if you can help. :)
