There is some pretty interesting food related reading up on the blogs on the left hand corner over there. You can read about the kidneybean/mochi/shaved ice desert concoction “zenzai” on Okinawa-shi. Or browse the over 50 cafes and restaurants on Independent Travel Okinawa Here’s a blog on one reader’s newfound bento obsession obentolunchforkids. Today’s post on Caracalla comes compliments of Pamela on People.Love.Life. Smoothies? Atmosphere? Pancakes? Do, go on Pamela…

Life is different here. Life can be like (as my friend, Caz says), a ‘permanent vacation’…and with vacations come photos, lots of them. And eating out at sidewalk or beach front cafes. I don’t think I would be blogging about a cafe in the states, but here it seems appropriate. I have been meaning to post more about this place for a while. Not only is it round the corner from me (Chatan, Kitamae, Foster residents listen up!), it has the most ‘wicked’ view from their full on window in the back. It has a funky, eclectic but relaxed vibe, the pancakes are good (I’m not really a pancake person, but they hit the spot and may make me a pancake person!). They also have pizza and spaghetti on their ever expanding menu. The herbal teas are lovely and mostly, the owner, is really nice and laid back (she has no problem with 2 crazy kids, like mine!). There are some really great art books to browse through whilst you sip that tea. (The tea, incidentally, come with a little sand time so you know when it’s brewed!) Soon, my photos will be on the wall for a mini exhibition. That I am excited about, it’s like being back in London, sort of.
Everyone can relax here:
Owner, Masae Tsujimura…She’s cool!

After, you can head right out to the seawall and enjoy a bike or a scooter ride. Nice.

Oh my gosh…if I don’t get some of those banana pancakes with the caramel immediately I’m going to lose my mind!
This place is GREAT! They also have fantastic MANGO pancaked (and Mango Lassi, for you Mango Lover’s out there). It is great place, great view, cozy atmosphere!
Enjoy!!
groovy place….so close….thanks!!!
They are coming out with their autumn menu and I taste tested their apple pancakes this morning and they are YUMMY!
Sounds wonderful and the pancakes look so yummy! I’d go just to see your pictures Pamela.
We ate here today and loved it! Daughter had a maple/banana smoothie with caramel/banana pancakes, I had a yogurt drink (lassi) and the shrimp tomato pasta – YUMMY! Definately a place to return to repeatedly!
Just wanted to let you all know that I am having a mini exhibition of some of my prints at Cafe Caracalla from Nov 15th to the 30th. Nothing big, about 12 A4 framed images. I will (I hope) have a guest book there. Now, if you have never been to this place you need to go since their pancakes are very GOOD, I was never a pancake person ’til I ate these. The mango pancakes are my fav and the tea set is good!

Thanks

Yeah! I will definetly go check it out. I can’t wait to see what you will have up there. Just to let everyone know the hours have changed. Make sure you check their website. I think their last service is 1800 (closed at 1900). We got there one night at 1830 and it was too late.
Finally made it. What a beautiful view this restaurant has- very cool place…Had the pizza (good)…and seeing Pamela’s photos was a treat. A must do!
I finally made it there too, and who did I happen to run into but Staci (above) and Pamela too! It was great. Those banana caramel pancakes on the menu looked delish. But they also had pancake SANDWICHES. Ummm. It was a hard decision, but of course the caramel won out. The coffee was nice and fresh tasting too and loved seeing Pamela’s work on their walls. Highly recommend making the trip there.
Any idea their open/closed days this week?
closed ’til the 6th Jan

Happy NEW Year!
I just went here for the first time this past saturday and I hate to be negative but I felt that it was VERY overpriced. My very tiny cup of coffee was 500Yen and does not include refills. It was just regualr coffee, not a latte or anything fancy. The pancake were very thin and the kids plates are more like toddler plates. It was not near enough food for my 5 and 6 yr olds. Everything did taste great but the price for what you got was not in balance. I think that this place is more worth its ambience than anything else. If you have kids and want to go for breakfast I think the Rose Garden or Coffee Casa would be a better choice. Also Coffee Casa has huhge coffees for great prices and they have every kind of coffee imaginable!
I went there today and got the maple cream cheese pancakes and bacon…OMG so good! The drinks were a bit pricy so I just had water, but I will def. be going back!
This is really sad for me, but I just got an email from the owner of Cafe Caracalla that they have closed and they are moving back to Tokyo.

I don’t know why it closed as of yet, but I LOVED that place, the ambiance was so nice and the owner is a lovely lady.
Oh no!!! How sad!!!!
It really is. I feel like I have lost a part of what makes my neighbourhood special for me. Do you know what I mean?…
