Meredith is gone.
I had considered staying in my pajamas all day and lying on the floor sobbing. But I know she just wouldn’t want that. She’d want me to go on with my life. To find meaning in each new day. To at least take a shower.
And to get out there and have me some fun!
So since we’re in the countdown to the 4th of July celebrations I thought we’d lay out some of the options here (btw, did you noticed I used lying & lay in the same post?? I actually had to google it to remind myself which one gets used when… freshman English was sooooo long ago…)
Kadena is having a big bash (America Fest) starting on the 4th for SOFA status personnel. All are invited to the shindig on the 5th. It’s on the flightline, but I admit that I don’t really know what that means in terms of where to park. Do you know?
I’m pretty excited about this one cuz they finally are having a band that I actually KNOW. If the following lyrics ring a bell then you know them, too:

Eve 6!! They’ll be playing both nights from 7:30-8:45pm.
Fireworks begin at 8:45pm both nights, but last for 5 minutes less on the 5th (is this what we get for our tax dollars? 5 more minutes of sparkin’ fun?? YIPEE!!).
Now, I’ve been trying to get on the MCCS website for DAYS and it won’t load for me, so if someone out there could fill us in on what’s happening at Foster, I’d be eternally (or least monthly) grateful.
Lauren wrote in to remind us about the happenings at Torii Beach on July 5th. There will be a Jazz & Wine Festival held from 4pm to midnight. The Jazz concerts are FREE but tickets to the wine tasting & hors d’oeuvres are $25 at the door ($20 purchased before at Torii MWR or Kadena USO). Fireworks accompanied by live jazz will be at 10pm.
Go out and have some fun — with sunscreen, of course.

The MCCS website is currently under construction while they are doing some upgrades. At this week’s newcomers brief the representative said it should only be a few days.
Sigh. She be gone, but you’re right – she’d want us movin’ on. I’m just hoping the boys are behaving!
I’m hitting the Torii jazz & wine fest on the 5th. (maybe eve 6 on the 4th!!) jazz/wine fest is FREE unless you’re wine tasting (then it’s a $20 ticket available on torii at the club there). went last year, good glorious FUN for all. kids too. parking was not so bad either.
lie & lay. i had an amazing professor in college who told me the difference and you will NEVER EVER forget it (just because i have a love for grammar and i thought it was funny).
lay – you always lay SOMETHING. (think about getting laid) if the dog was LAYING there, he’d be having a lot more fun. he’s LYING there.
lie – is without a direct object.
so. you lie in the sun or lie on the floor.
you lay the book on the table, or (as stated above) lay out the options.
tell me you’ll never forget now! and you’ll laugh when someone says my husband was just laying on the couch….
lying and laying; I am now totally self conscious because I KNOW I have, at least at one occasion, used one or the other, maybe both, in connection with not telling the truth!
Easy, I blame it all on being German and English being my second language. In secret I am horrified!!!!
I heard on the radio that there is parking on the flight line and there are shuttle buses on Kadena and from the Chibana golf course, but from there only on the 5th, because they will be using that parking lot instead of the Commissary parking lot.
Did I mention that Germans use a lot of run on sentences? I can actually write one whole paragraph in German and it is only 1 sentence and it’s grammatically correct.Love it!

I am cooking hot dogs at the Foster PX on the 5th. We will do a demo for our Weber grills and the hot dogs will be free. The fun starts at 12:00 and we have 300. You figure out how long they will last. Stop by and get one. Don’t forget to say hai.

MCCS (Marine Corps Bases) only does things at the club (i.e.: one on Foster has an all you can eat buffet, schwab has a bbq, and other things at various clubs). Nothing really festivally! You want fireworks you go to Okuma or Kadena
Well pardon me while I disagree with Daniela. Almost all festivals held on this island are done so by MCCS. All festivals held on all MC bases are done by MCCS, including the Futenma Flightline fair, which is going to be 23-24 August, and has fireworks. You can, of course, go to the local festivals (like Orion fest), but for things really “fesivally”, MCCS is the only one who does such things
